Welcome to the Durham Foster Carers Handbook
Getting Started:
Whether you are just beginning your fostering journey or have already opened your home and heart to children and young people, this handbook has been created especially for you.
If this is the first time you've visited this online handbook, please read through the 'Using this Handbook' guidance to familiarise yourself with the layout and functions.
Foster carers play a vital and valued role in the lives of Children in our care and their families. The care, stability, understanding and encouragement you provide can make a lifelong difference. Because this role is so important, it’s essential that you have clear guidance, practical support and the right tools to help you every step of the way and this handbook is one of those tools.
The handbook reflects the policies, procedures and guidance that underpin our fostering service and cover many of the situations you may face in your day-to-day role. It has been written in an accessible and straightforward way to help you understand what is expected of you and how we can work together to achieve the very best outcomes for children and young people.
